New orders for U.S. manufactured goods posted a healthy rebound from a down October, according to U.S. Census Bureau data released Jan. 5.
The bureau’s monthly report on manufacturers’ shipments, inventories and orders showed that new orders for manufactured goods increased 2.6% vs. October to $5292.9 billion. That followed a 3.4% decrease in October, and was the third increase in four months.
Shipments, following two straight monthly decreases, increased 0.5% in November, while unfilled orders increased 1.3% for its 11th gain in 12 months. The unfilled orders-to-shipments ratio was 6.95 in November, up from 6.91 in October.
Inventories increased 0.1% in November for a fifth straight monthly gain. The inventories-to-shipments ratio was 1.48 in November, unchanged from October.
