Essendant Inc. (NASDAQ: ESND), Deerfield, IL, reported sales for the first quarter of $1.4 billion, up 1.5 percent from the prior-year quarter. The company reported a profit of $16.5 million, up from a net loss of $6 million a year ago.
For the first quarter, office products sales increased 0.8 percent to $733.3 million; jan-san sales increased 1 percent to $362.4 million; industrial sales decreased 6.2 percent to $139.8 million; and automotive sales increased 31.8 percent to $79.4 million.
