On March 22, health and specialty food distributor United Natural Foods Inc. (UNFI) announced a pair of executive promotions: Erin Horvath has been appointed the role of Chief Operating Officer (COO) and Louis Martin has been named President of Wholesale.

UNFI also said in a March 23 K-8 filing that Michael Stigers will resign from his position as CEO of UNFI Retail later this spring.

As COO, Horvath will be responsible for driving project management, enhancing UNFI’s legacy integration and physical infrastructure, and ensuring the success of UNFI’s digital, technology and automation initiatives, according to a news release. Horvath joined UNFI in October 2022 after over 17 years in senior leadership roles with pharmaceutical distributor AmerisourceBergen Corporation.

As President of Wholesale, Martin will lead the evolution of UNFI’s customer-centric strategy by integrating national and regional customer organizations, revenue growth management and commercial planning teams, according to the release. Martin previously spent 15 years in a variety of senior leadership roles with The Coca-Cola Company before joining UNFI in March 2022.

“This operational leadership team, made up of UNFI veterans and new leaders, is equipped to help us accelerate improvement in our customer and supplier experience, our operating efficiency, and digital and physical infrastructure,” UNFI CEO Sandy Douglas said in the release. “With our transformation plan nearly complete and the realignment of our leadership teams in place, we are well positioned to become a unique value creator for our customers, suppliers, associates, and shareholders.”

Stigers notified UNFI on March 20 of his intent to resign and pursue another professional opportunity, according to the K-8 filing. Stigers will remain with UNFI until May 31, 2023.
