Metalworking and MRO supplies distributor MSC Industrial Supply inked its fourth acquisition in just under two years, announcing the additions of Wisconsin–based ApTex and Arizona-based Premier Tool Grinding.
A June 25 MSC news release noted that the two companies had a combined 2023 revenue of just over $20 million and 58 employees.
Waukesha, WI-based ApTex is a production-oriented metalworking distributor with a focus on cutting tools, abrasives, metalworking fluids, workholding systems and components, alongside value-added services and solutions.
Goodyear, AZ-based Premier Tool Grinding designs, manufactures, reconditions and coats carbide cutting tools. MSC said Premier Tool Grinding has made a significant transformation over the years from manual grinding machines to a fully automated shop equipped with CNC machines and state-of-the-art PVD coating machines.
“ApTex will strengthen our position to gain share in the surrounding Wisconsin area by combining ApTex’s deep technical expertise with MSC’s best-in-class metalworking offering,” MSC President and CEO Erik Gershwind said in the company’s news release. “Additionally, Premier Tool Grinding will bolster MSC’s specialty tooling and regrinding service offering that was recently enhanced through the acquisition of Tru-Edge and expands our reach to western parts of the U.S.”
The expansion marks MSC’s fourth and fifth acquisitions in a little under two years. Its last addition was Mississauga, Ontario-based KAR Industrial, acquired this past January.
“As we join the MSC family, we look forward to combining our technical expertise and solution-driven approach with MSC’s expanded product offering to drive further cost savings for customers,” ApTex President Dean Meier said.
Premier Tool Grinding Co-Owner Shaun Schilling added that joining forces with MSC represents an opportunity to leverage the company’s “innovative spirit and technical prowess on a larger scale.”
On MDM’s 2024 Top Distributors Lists, Melville, NC-based MSC charted at No. 13 for Industrial Supplies, No. 6 for MRO, No. 4 for Fasteners and No. 5 for Safety.
MSC is scheduled to report its 2024 fiscal third quarter results on July 2.
