Birmingham, AL-based MRO replacement parts distributor Motion agreed to acquire Canada-based Stoney Creek Hydraulics.
Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Stoney Creek Hydraulics is a manufacturer of hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders. Founded in 1998, the company builds cylinders according to customer blueprints or designed by its engineering team. Stoney Creek Hydraulics also offers repair services that include cylinder inspection, machining and testing with precision.
“As we continue to execute our acquisition strategy to grow our services, we are pleased to welcome Stoney Creek Hydraulics employees to Motion,” Motion President James Howe said in an Oct. 28 news release. “Their skills and capabilities will bolster out hydraulic offering in Canada and complement our mechanical repair services in the region.”

This is Motion’s fourth acquisition of 2024 following the completion of LSI Supply Inc. in Windsor, Canada on Aug. 14; Allied Circuits in Buffalo, NY on May 15; and Perfetto Manufacturing and SER Hydraulics in Canada on Feb 20.
Motion is the industrial parts subsidiary of Genuine Parts Company, which reported its 2024 third quarter financial results on Oct. 22. The figures showed a continued modest sales decline at Motion at -1.2% year-over-year to $1.2 billion, following 2Q’s 1.1% slide. Motion’s 3Q segment profit and margin of $259 million/11.8% fell 8.5%/100 basis points year-over-year.
Motion was ranked No. 2 on MDM’s Top Distributors List for Industrial Supplies, No. 2 for MRO, No. 1 for Power Transmission/Bearings, No. 3 for Fluid Power and No. 2 for Hose/Hose Accessories.
