Pittsburgh, PA-based electrical supplies distributor Wesco completed its acquisition of Ascent for $185 million.
Wesco previously announced its intention to acquire Ascent on Oct. 31.
St. Louis, MO-based Ascent — a privately held company with over 300 employees across the U.S. and Canada — specializes in data center facility and property management services.
“Wesco continues to expand our leading data center solutions offering,” Wesco President and CEO John Engel said in a Dec. 6 news release. “Ascent’s expertise in engineering and design-build consultation services, in addition to daily site operations, extends our suite of capabilities and solutions that serve the entire lifecycle of the data center.”
Ascent reported $115 million in trailing 12-month sales as of June 30, along with a three-year compound annual growth rate exceeding 30%.
“The Ascent team further extends our end-to-end service offerings for the data center — including advanced liquid cooling solutions — and adds significant capabilities to our portfolio of software and services to power business results and efficiencies for our customers,” Wesco Communication and Security Solutions President and General Manager Bill Geary said.
Wesco’s most recent previous acquisition was of data center and building intelligence software entroCIM for $30 million, completed in early June.
MDM’s Wesco Case Study
This Summer, MDM took a deep dive on Wesco to produce a Case Study on the distributor. Premium members can download it here, while non-members can find it here in the MDM Store.
The case study was preceded by a three-part Premium article series:
- Wesco Analysis, Pt. 1: Scale and Value Proposition
- Wesco Analysis, Pt. 2: Enterprise Strategies
- Wesco Analysis, Pt. 3: Digitize the Business
And to decompress that series and case study, we had an MDM Podcast with the series’ author, John Gunderson
