Electrical supplies distributor Sonepar announced the sale of Vallen Asia to the latter’s leadership team in a management buyout (MBO).
Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Sonepar used to own Charlotte, NC-based Vallen Distribution before selling it to private equity firm Nautic Partners in 2022, which did not include Vallen Asia. This latest divestment, which closed on Dec. 13, marked the further deconsolidation of Vallen from Sonepar.
“It has been a unique and enormously enriching journey, both personally and collectively, to ‘grow up’ as part of the Sonepar family,” Sonepar Singapore Country Manager Andrew Bennett said in a Dec. 20 news release. “Although our paths diverge at this point, the Sonepar DNA will be forever imprinted in Vallen Asia, an invaluable takeaway. The Vallen team is excited and fully committed as we enter the next stage of our evolution.”
With the deal, Bennet will depart from Sonepar after leading Vallen Asia for 16 years.
Vallen Asia reported a 2023 revenue of approximately $93.6 million USD and employed 244 associates throughout Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia and China.
In 2008, Vallen Asia became part of Sonepar through the acquisition of Hagemeyer. Since then, Vallen Asia branded itself as the market leader in “Integrated Supply” throughout Asia.
Sonepar will continue as a minority shareholder of Vallen Asia for the next five years.
