Electrical, communications and data networking products distributor Graybar has entered into an agreement to acquire Valin Corporation, the company announced April 25. Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.
Founded in 1974, Valin is a distributor of automation, filtration, fluid handling, heating and process control products and systems. The company primarily serves customers in the technology, energy, life sciences, natural resources and transportation industries. Valin is based in San Jose, California, and operates 12 locations across California, Utah, Arizona, Oregon, Colorado, Washington, Montana, Texas and Singapore.
As a subsidiary of Graybar, Valin will retain its branding and continue to operate with the same leadership team, employees and suppliers, according to a news release.
“As Graybar expands its industrial automation platform, Valin’s portfolio of products, solutions and technical resources complements our existing capabilities and provides a foundation for growth into new markets,” Graybar Chairman, President and CEO Kathleen Mazzarella said in the release. “We look forward to achieving long-term success, as we work together to serve our customers today and innovate for tomorrow.”
“I believe Valin and Graybar are well aligned, not just from a business standpoint, but also from a cultural perspective,” Valin CEO Joseph Nettemeyer said in the release. “At Valin, we take pride in being a company that emphasizes growth, innovation, and ownership. As we join Graybar, we will continue to build on these strengths, while we focus on providing exceptional service to our customers and investing in our future.”
The deal is expected to close May 1, subject to customary closing conditions.
The acquisition of Valin is meant to further diversify Graybar’s portfolio and bolster its growing industrial automation platform. Last August, Graybar acquired two Connecticut-based automation distributors, Walker Industrial Products and New England Drives & Controls.
On April 24, St. Louis-based Graybar reported it achieved “record” first-quarter sales of $2.7 billion to begin the 2023 fiscal year. The electrical distributor also posted record sales of $10.5 billion in fiscal 2022.
Graybar ranked No. 3 on MDM’s Top Electrical, Data & Security Distributors list in 2022.
