Border States is set to gain a major foothold in the U.S. Mid-Atlantic via its latest acquisition.
The Fargo, ND-based electrical supplies distributor will acquire Dominion Electric Supply Company on May 1, pending regulatory approval.
Established in 1940 and based in Arlington, VA, Dominion has over 300 employees and nine branches across Virginia and Maryland.
In a March 21 news release, Border States noted that Dominion has over $374 million in annual sales.
Terms or an anticipated closing date for the transaction were not disclosed.
It will mark a major geographic expansion for Border States on the U.S. East Coast, enabling it to serve metropolitan areas of Washington D.C./Arlington/Alexandria and Baltimore.
“As the largest family-owned and operated electrical distributor in the mid-Atlantic, Dominion is a growth-oriented, construction market leader,” said Border States CEO David White, who is set to retire on March 31. “Their core values are exhibited in dedicated service to a loyal customer base and the power of partnership through strong vendor relationships. Employee values underscore the impact people have in shaping Dominion’s excellence, which resonates well with our employee-owned culture.”
Current Border States President Jason Seger will succeed White as CEO on April 1.
“I am immensely proud of our employees. Throughout our journey, it has been abundantly clear that our greatest strength lies in our people,” added Stephen Krooth, CEO of Dominion. “They have continually adapted and evolved alongside the marketplace, catering to the needs of our customers and embracing the evolving trends within our industry.”
On March 1, Border States closed on its acquisition of Hollywood, CA-based Winston Engineering — which provides professional mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) engineering services for residential, commercial, educational and governmental needs.
Employee-owned Border States was No. 6 on MDM’s 2023 Top Distributors List for electrical, data & security products distributors. The company serves construction, industrial and utility customers with over 3,200 employees across 120 branches in 29 U.S. states.
