United Rentals, Inc. (NYSE: URI), Stamford, CT, reported third quarter sales of $1.8 billion, up 17.1 percent compared to the same period a year ago. Rental sales were $1.5 billion, up 16.2 percent year-over-year. Profit increased 6.4 percent to $199 million.
For the first nine months, sales were $4.7 billion, up 11.3 percent year-over-year. Rental sales increased 11.7 percent to $4.1 billion. Profit increased 8.7 percent to $449 million.
