United Rentals, Inc. (NYSE: URI), Stamford, CT, reported third quarter sales of $1.6 billion, up 0.4 percent over the same period a year ago. Rental sales were $1.3 billion, up 0.8 percent year-over-year. Profit increased 12 percent to $215 million.
For the first nine months, sales were $4.3 billion, up 4.2 percent year-over-year. Rental sales grew 4.9 percent to $3.7 billion. Profit grew 20.2 percent to $416 million.
