United Rentals, Inc. (NYSE: URI), Stamford, CT, reported third quarter sales of $1.5 billion, down 2.7 percent compared to the same period a year ago. Rental sales were $1.3 billion, down 0.3 percent year-over-year. Profit decreased 13 percent to $187 million.
For the first nine months, sales were $4.2 billion, down 1.3 percent year-over-year. Rental sales decreased 0.8 percent to $3.6 billion. Profit decreased 0.7 percent to $413 million.
