United Rentals, Inc. (NYSE: URI), Stamford, CT, reported second quarter sales of $1.4 billion, up 2.1 percent over the same period a year ago. Rental revenue was $1.2 billion, up 3.5 percent year-over-year. Profit decreased 8.5 percent to $86 million.
For the first six months, sales were $2.7 billion, up 6.5 percent year-over-year. Rental revenue grew 7.4 percent to $2.2 billion. Profit grew 30.5 percent to $201 million.
