European building materials supplier Saint-Gobain reported sales for the first quarter of €9.93 billion (US$10.8 billion), up 8.7 percent from the same quarter a year ago. On a like-for-like basis, sales were up 7.6 percent. Volumes were up 6 percent in the first quarter.
Sales in North America were up 8.2 percent, sales in France were up 4.6 percent, sales in other Western European countries were up 8.3 percent and sales in Asia and emerging countries grew 10.5 percent.
