European building materials supplier Saint-Gobain reported sales for the third quarter of €10.7 billion (US$13.5 billion), a decrease of 3.3 percent year-over-year. On an organic basis, sales declined 0.3 percent.
Building distribution segment sales fell 1.7 percent in the quarter to €4.9 billion (US$6.2 billion). Organically, sales for the segment declined 1.8 percent.
The Group’s organic growth in the third quarter reflects the contraction in certain economies in Western Europe, milder growth in Asia and emerging countries, and a downturn in the roofing business in the U.S.," CEO Pierre-André de Chalendar said. "The positive trends in the UK and Scandinavia, and in U.S. new-build and industrial markets, continued apace."
