European building materials supplier Saint-Gobain reported sales for the first quarter of €9.1 billion (US$10.3 billion), down 1.9 percent from the same quarter a year ago. On a like-for-like basis, sales were up 1.8 percent. Volumes were up 2.3 percent in the first quarter.
Sales in North America were flat, sales in France fell 1 percent, sales in other Western European countries declined 0.3 percent and sales in Asia and emerging countries decreased 6 percent.
