Compared with May 2015, June seasonally adjusted production in the construction sector fell by 1.9 percent in the euro area (EA19) and by 1.1 percent in the EU28, according to Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union.
Compared with June 2014, production in construction fell by 2.3 percent in the euro area and by 0.4 percent in the EU28.
Compared with May, June's decrease of 1.9 percent in production in construction in the euro area is due to civil engineering falling by 2.7 percent and building construction by 1.6 percent. In the EU28, the decrease of 1.1 percent is due to civil engineering falling by 1.7 percent and building construction by 0.9 percent.
Among Member States for which data are available, the highest decreases in production in construction were recorded in Germany (-4.5 percent), Poland (-4.2 percent), Sweden (-2.7 percent) and France (-2.5 percent), and the highest increases in Romania (+3.5 percent), Bulgaria (+2.6 percent) and the United Kingdom (+2.5 percent).
The year-over-year decrease of 2.3 percent in production in construction in the euro area in June 2015 is due civil engineering falling by 3.1 percent and building construction by 2 percent. In the EU28, the decrease of 0.4 percent is due to building construction falling by 0.6 percent, while civil engineering rose by 1 percent.
Among Member States for which data are available, the largest decreases in production in construction were recorded in Slovenia (-12.2 percent), France (-6.8 percent), Poland (-4.7 percent) and Germany (-3.9 percent), and the highest increases in Slovakia (+24.1 percent), the Netherlands (+15.8 percent), Romania (+13.1 percent) and Sweden (+10.8 percent).
