January 2014 construction spending was estimated at $943.1 billion, a slight increase from the revised December estimate, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. The January 2014 figure is a 9.3 percent increase from the January 2013 estimate.
For January 2014, private construction was $670.8 billion, a 0.5 percent increase from the revised December estimate. Residential construction was $359.9 billion, a 1.1 percent increase from the revised December estimate. Nonresidential construction was $310.9 billion, a slight decrease from the revised December estimate.
For January 2014, public construction was $272.3 billion, a 0.8 percent decrease from the revised December estimate. Educational construction was $61.6 billion, a 1.8 percent decrease from the revised December estimate. Highway construction was $88.3 billion, a 3.7 percent increase from the revised December estimate.
