Specialty building products distributor GMS will expand its core product categories with the acquisition of Brooklyn, NY-based building materials distributor Kamco Supply Corp. and affiliates.
Kamco — a supplier of ceilings, wallboard, steel, lumber and related construction products — operates five distribution facilities in the Greater New York City area and services the New York metropolitan and Tri-State area. For the 12 months ended June 30, Kamco recorded revenues of approximately $245 million.
The acquisition will expand the GMS’ wallboard offering and develop the company’s presence in the New York metropolitan market, where is does not currently have a significant presence in, but has made efforts to expand into recently, including with its acquisition of Brooklyn-based fastener distributor Tanner Bolt & Nut earlier this year.
“We expect the addition of this business to GMS to provide enhanced customer service capability, significant cross-selling opportunities, a strengthened value proposition and a broader suite of top tier-product offerings in the largest metropolitan area in the United States,” GMS President and CEO John Turner Jr. said in a Dec. 21 news release.
Kamco Leadership
Following the close of the transaction (expected during the fourth quarter of GMS’ fiscal 2024, which ends on April 30), Kamco’s current President Scott Little and the senior leadership team will continue to lead the business. The company will continue to operate under the Kamco brand as it has for over 80 years.
GMS ranked No. 9 in MDM’s 2023 Top Building Materials/Construction Distributors list.
