Builders FirstSource agreed to acquire Englewood, CO-based Alpine Lumber Company in a move set to add considerable Rocky Mountain lumber dealing resources to the building materials distributor.

Terms were not disclosed, but the transaction is expected to close in the first quarter of 2025.

Established in 1962 by the Kurtz family, Denver-based Alpine is an employee-owned and operated distributor of building materials. The company serves homebuilders and contractors across 21 locations in the Front Range of Colorado, western Colorado and northern New Mexico. Alpine offers a variety of products, including prefabricated trusses, wall panels and millwork.

As of November 2024, Alpine reported trailing 12-month sales of around $500 million. The acquisition is anticipated to enhance Builders FirstSource’s adjusted earnings per share in 2025 and will be financed using a mix of current cash reserves and credit facilities.

“This acquisition aligns with our strategic pillar to deploy capital to high-growth investments, and it enhances our footprint in our West Division,” Builders FirstSource President and CEO Peter Jackson said in a Dec. 23 news release. “The complementary nature of our businesses and shared cultures of delivering exceptional customer service will provide significant benefits to our customers, employees, and shareholders. I am looking forward to welcoming the Alpine team members to Builders FirstSource.”

Hamid Taha, CEO of Alpine, will stay with the company throughout the transition to oversee the integration of Alpine and Builders FirstSource in Colorado and northern New Mexico.

Irving, TX-based Builders FirstSource’s most recent previous acquisitions were of Huntington, NY-based Kleet Lumber, completed on Nov. 25 and Reno, NV-based High Mountain Door & Trim Inc., completed on Oct. 7.

The company was No. 1 on MDM’s Top Distributor’s List for Building Materials/Construction.
