In a March 21 8-K filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Dallas-based building materials distributor Builders FirstSource (BFS) said it has appointed Stephen Herron to the role of Chief Operating Officer (COO).
Prior to Herron’s promotion, BFS did not have an executive in the COO position, according to the company’s investors’ website. The distributor ranked No. 1 on MDM’s Top Building Materials/Construction Distributors list in 2022.
As COO, Herron is responsible for overseeing the performance and day-to-day operational and administrative functions of the company, according to his bio on the BFS website. He previously served as president of BFS’s eastern division from August 2015 to December 2020.
Before joining BFS, Herron was Senior Vice President of Operations for ProBuild Holdings from 2011 to 2015. He spent time as SVP for HD Supply Holdings, where he oversaw the lumber and building materials (LBM) division. Herron, whose career in the building products industry spans nearly 40 years, has also held senior management positions with Home Depot, Lowe’s and William Brothers Lumber.
The Form 8-K states that Herron will receive an annual base salary of $625,000, subject to annual review.
Herron is the second major executive appointment for BFS in 2023. In January, BFS officially appointed Dave Rush as CEO. Rush had been serving as interim CEO after former BFS CEO Dave Flitman departed to take the same position at US Foods.
