Swedish bearing manufacturer SKF (STO: SKFA), Gothenburg, Sweden, is consolidating its aerospace manufacturing footprint in Europe and has proposed closing its bearing manufacturing site in Stonehouse, England.
The closing is subject to consultation with local unions, the company said. If confirmed, the company will cease manufacturing at the site by December 31, 2021, moving production to SKF’s aerospace bearing manufacturing sites in Italy and France. The move will allow SKF to “make better use of more modern machines and manufacturing technologies at our sites in other parts of Europe,” said Bernd Stephan, president of SKF’s automotive and aerospace business.
The Stonehouse location employs approximately 185 people.
