Building materials distributor 84 Lumber announced on Tuesday that it has officially re-opened its rebuilt Greenwood, Indiana store after the original building caught fire more than year ago. 84 Lumber has been in the Greenwood community since 1970 and serves the Greater Indianapolis area.

The Greenwood store currently employs 34 associates and the company expects to hire approximately five additional associates by the end of this year. The new facility has a similar footprint as the original building, but with many upgrades.

Even with significant damage from the fire, the store never officially closed. 84 Lumber continued serving customers through a temporary office trailer and the nearby 84 Lumber truss plant facility in Franklin, Indiana.

The fire, which took place in the early morning of June 5, 2020, caused significant damage to the main facility, but there were no injuries. The cause of the fire is still unknown.

“Our people have been incredibly resilient over the last year, taking care of customers even through the fire, the COVID-19 pandemic and the record-high demands the building industry has faced over the last year,” said 84 Lumber Area Manager Kevin Means. “I’m so proud of our team in Greenwood. They never stopped. On the day of the fire, we still shipped our customers loads to the job sites, going above and beyond to ensure our customers’ needs were met.”

Based in Eighty Four, Pa., 84 Lumber  plans to open new stores in Detroit, Stockton, Calif. and Boise, Idaho by the end of the year. 84 Lumber is experiencing a record sales year and is on track to end 2021 with a 40% year-over-year sales increase, the company previously said.

In July, 84 Lumber announced that its newest dedicated truss plant had opened in Statesville, North Carolina. The company said the new truss plant was part of its ongoing 2021 expansion plans that were designed to help fill the increasing demand for engineered and manufactured wood products around the country.
