The Power Transmission Distributors Association Business Index reading for the first quarter was 63.6, compared with a 60 reading for the fourth quarter index of 2013. In the first quarter survey, participants anticipated 6 percent growth in 2014, a decrease from the 7 percent growth anticipated in the fourth quarter of 2013 which suggests expectations of weakness later in the year.
The index reading indicates the rate of change compared with the previous period. Readings above 50 indicate growth and below 50 indicate contraction. The further the index is above or below 50 suggests a faster or slower rate of change
