Manufacturing jobs increased by 16,000 in July after increasing by 12,000 in June, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
In July, construction employment increased by 6,000, following an increase of 15,000 in June. Employment in construction has been trending up since late last summer, largely among specialty trade contractors and in residential building.
Overall, total nonfarm payroll employment increased by 209,000 in July. The unemployment rate, at 4.3 percent, and the number of unemployed persons, at 7 million, changed little in July.
