Manufacturing employment changed little in August, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Over the year, employmentin the industry was up by 254,000, with more than three-fourths of the gain in thedurable goods component.
Employment in construction was up by 23,000 in August and has increased by 297,000 over the year.
Total nonfarm payroll employment increased by 201,000 in August, and the unemployment rate was unchanged at 3.9 percent
The unemployment rate remained at 3.9 percent in August, and the number of unemployed persons, at 6.2 million, changed little.
