Compared with June, July seasonally adjusted production in the construction sector was up 1.8 percent in the euro area (EA19) and up 1.1 percent in the EU28, according to first estimates from Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union. In June 2016, production in construction rose by 0.3 percent in the euro area and was stable in the EU28.
In July 2016 compared with July 2015, production in construction grew by 3.1 percent in the euro area and by 1 percent in the EU28.
The increase of 1.8 percent in production in construction in the euro area in July 2016, compared with June 2016, is due to building construction rising by 2.2 percent and civil engineering by 0.4 percent.
In the EU28, the increase of 1.1 percent is due to building construction rising by 1.3 percent and civil engineering by 0.9 percent.
Among member states for which data are available, the highest increases in production in construction were recorded in France (+4.8 percent), Slovenia (+2 percent), Spain (+1.9 percent) and Germany (+1.8 percent), and the largest decreases in Slovakia (-11 percent), Hungary (-3.2 percent) and Bulgaria (-1.4 percent).
The increase of 3.1 percent in production in construction in the euro area in July 2016, compared with July 2015, is due to building construction rising by 3.2 percent and civil engineering by 2.9 percent.
In the EU28, the increase of 1 percent is due to building construction rising by 1.8 percent, while civil engineering fell by 2.7 percent.
Among member states for which data are available, the highest increases in production in construction were recorded in Spain (+12 percent), Sweden (+10 percent) and France (+3.3 percent), while the largest decreases were observed in Slovakia (-23.3 percent), Hungary (-17.6 percent) and Poland (-15.1 percent).
