Compared with October, November seasonally adjusted production in the construction sector fell by 0.1 percent in the euro area (EA18) and by 0.2 percent in the EU28, according to first estimates from Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union. In October, production in construction grew by 1.1 percent and 0.5 percent, respectively.
Compared with November 2013, production in construction grew by 2.2 percent in the euro area and by 2.5 percent in the EU28.
The decrease of 0.1 percent in production in construction in the euro area in November, compared with October, is due to building construction falling by 0.2 percent and civil engineering rising by 0.1 percent. In the EU28, the decrease of 0.2 percent is due to building construction falling by 0.2 percent and civil engineering by 0.1 percent.
Among Member States for which data are available, the largest decreases in production in construction were observed in Italy (-4.5 percent), the United Kingdom (-2 percent) and the Czech Republic (-1.9 percent), and the highest increases in Romania (+5.8 percent), Poland (+2.5 percent), Sweden (+2.4 percent) and Spain (+2.2 percent).
The increase of 2.2 percent in production in construction in the euro area in November 2014, compared with November 2013, is due to building construction rising by 2.7 percent, while civil engineering fell by 0.5 percent. In the EU28, the increase of 2.5 percent is due to building construction rising by 3.3 percent, while civil engineering fell by 0.5 percent.
Among Member States for which data are available, the highest increases in production in construction were registered in Spain (+15.9 percent), Sweden (+12.5 percent) and Hungary (+8.8 percent), and the largest decreases in Slovenia (-11.2 percent), Italy (-7.9 percent), Portugal (-5.7 percent) and Slovakia (-5.1 percent).
