New orders for manufactured durable goods increased 0.7 percent to $238.7 billion in March, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. This increase, up three consecutive months, followed a 2.3 percent February increase.
Excluding transportation, new orders decreased 0.2 percent. Excluding defense, new orders increased 0.1 percent. Transportation equipment, also up three consecutive months, led the increase, 2.4 percent to $83.3 billion.
Inventories of manufactured durable goods, up four of the last five months, increased 0.1 percent to $385.7 billion. Machinery, also up four of the last five months, led the increase, growing 0.6 percent to $66.7 billion.
Shipments of manufactured durable goods, up four of the last five months, increased 0.2 percent to $239.8 billion. Unfilled orders for manufactured durable goods, up two consecutive months, was up 0.2 percent to $1,119 billion.
