U.S monthly manufactured durable goods orders decreased $2.2 billion or 0.8% in September from August, according to an advance report from the U.S. Census Bureau.
Released Oct. 25, the report showed that September orders decreased to a total of $284.8 billion. This follows a 0.8% decrease in August.
Year-over-year, total durable goods orders decreased 0.8%.
The September decrease was driven by transportation equipment— down three of the last four months — which was down 3.3% vs August. Excluding transportation, new orders increased 0.4% compared to August. Excluding defense, new orders decreased 1.1%.
Capital goods orders decreased 2.8% month-to-month.
Shipment of manufactured durable goods decreased 0.6% in September vs August, following a 0.5% decrease.
September’s unfilled orders for durable goods decreased 1.3%, following a 0.4% increase in August. This followed a 0.2% in July.
September’s inventories of durable goods increased 0.2% following a 0.1% increase in August.
The Bureau will issue its final report for September durable goods orders on Nov. 4.
