U.S. monthly manufactured durable goods increased $0.2 billion or 0.2% in October from September, according to an advance report from the U.S. Census Bureau.
Released Nov. 27, the report showed that October orders increased to $286.6 billion. This follows a 0.8% decrease in September.
Year-over-year, total durable goods orders increased 0.2%.
The October increase was driven by transportation equipment—up following two consecutive monthly decreases—which was up 0.5% vs September. Excluding transportation, new orders increased 0.1% compared to September. Excluding defense, new orders increased 0.4%.
Capital goods orders increased 0.5% month-to-month.
Shipment of manufactured durable goods—down three consecutive months—decreased 0.6% in Octobers vs September, following a 0.6% decrease.
September’s unfilled orders for durable goods—up 50 of the last 51 months—increased 0.4%, following a 1.3% decrease in September. This followed a o.4% increase in August.
September’s inventories of durable goods—down four of the last five months—was virtually unchanged month-to-month, following a 0.2% increase in September.
The Bureau will issue its final report for October durable goods orders on Dec. 4.
