Logistics provider Zebra Technologies agreed to acquire Kentucky-based Photoneo.
Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Photoneo is a developer and manufacturer of 3D machine vision solutions and AI-powered robotics. The company makes Brightpick line of warehouse robotics for automating fulfillment tasks such as order picking, consolidation, dispatch and stock replenishment.
After the sale, Photoneo will be rebranded as Brightpick and will continue to operate independently, focusing on the development and deployment of AI robots to automate warehouse operations.
“This acquisition addresses the needs of customers globally who want to maximize the potential of machine vision within their frontline operations,” Zebra Technologies CEO Bill Burns said in a Dec. 30 new release. “Building on Zebra’s proven expertise in autonomous data capture, inspection software and deep learning AI capabilities, this combination expands our portfolio of highly differentiated 3D sensors and advanced 3D machine vision software. We look forward to welcoming the Photoneo team to the Zebra family.”
Illinois-based Zebra said that the sale proceeds will be reinvested to accelerate Brightpick’s growth in the U.S. and France. The company added that the acquisition will enhance its presence in the 3D machine vision market.
Zebra helps organizations track, predict and optimize workflows, serving around 10,000 partners in over 100 countries. The company’s solutions are built to integrate into a network of interconnected platforms.
