Plumbing and industrial supplies distribution giant Ferguson announced a major expansion on Aug. 2 in the form of a trio of acquisitions across three different industries.
The Newport News, Virginia-based company said that it has acquired plumbing distributor Bruce Supply Corp. (Brooklyn, New York); waterworks distributor The Kennedy Companies (Mount Laurel, New Jersey); and HVAC distributor S. G. Torrice (Wilmington, Massachusetts).
Ferguson said the three companies generate aggregate annual revenues of approximately $450 million.

“Bruce Supply, Kennedy and S. G. Torrice are great cultural fits for Ferguson and will help us better serve commercial mechanical, waterworks, and plumbing and HVAC trade professionals in key growing markets across the U.S.,” Ferguson Chief Executive Officer Kevin Murphy said in a news release. “All three companies have great reputations and associates with strong local customer relationships that will help fuel our future organic growth.”
Bruce Supply is a plumbing distributor that serves commercial, mechanical, residential, HVAC and fire and fabrication contractors in the New York City metro region. Founded in 1969, it has six locations in New York and New Jersey. Ferguson said Bruce Supply further enhances its PVF, hydronics and fire protection and fabrication offerings in the NYC Metro area — the nation’s largest market.
Founded in 1973, The Kennedy Companies is a distributor of piping and related water, storm, sewer and erosion control products. Kennedy has nine locations in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Virginia and North Carolina. Ferguson said Kennedy expands its PVF, geotextile, stormwater and erosion control capabilities to more water and waste treatment plant and municipal customers in the mid-Atlantic region.
S. G. Torrice is a distributor of HVAC equipment, parts and supplies in New England. Founded in 1958, the company has 15 locations across Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island and Vermont. Ferguson said S. G. Torrice expands its ability to serve dual-trade plumbing and HVAC professionals in the New England region.
Ferguson noted that it has completed more than 50 acquisitions in the past five years. This past December, Ferguson announced the acquisition of Tualatin, Oregon-based HVAC distributor Airefco, which added 11 locations and 191 employees to Ferguson’s footprint.
With $28.6 billion in 2022 revenues, Ferguson was prominently featured in MDM’s 2023 Top Distributors Lists as the No. 1 Plumbing Distributor, as well as No. 8 in Industrial, No. 2 in HVACR, No. 2 in Industrial PVF and No. 7 in Building Materials/Construction.
