Applied Expands in Automation, Adds Advanced Motion Systems

AMS serves customers across medical, technology, machine building, life sciences, electronics, automotive and other industrial verticals.
Florence - Circa July 2020: Applied Industrial Technologies center. AIT began distributing ball bearings and is a leading industrial distributor.

Applied Industrial Technologies on April 4 announced its acquisition of Rochester, New York-based Advanced Motion Systems Inc., which provides automation products, services and engineered solutions focused on machine vision, robotics and motion control products and technologies.

Financial details were not announced. AMS operates with a team of more than 10 associates from two locations. The company serves customers across medical, technology, machine building, life sciences, electronics, automotive and other industrial verticals.

“We welcome AMS to Applied as we continue the expansion of our automation platform,” said Neil A. Schrimsher, Applied President and CEO. “AMS aligns well with our solutions-centric strategy, acting as a key technical consultant to their customers’ emerging automation needs with strong solutions capabilities in machine vision, motion control, and related services. They broaden our footprint in the U.S. Upper Northeast region, including strengthening relationships with leading suppliers tied to our growth strategy. In addition, their experienced team of sales and application engineers extends our technical position and growth capacity in several emerging applications across key industry verticals. Overall, I am encouraged with the continued progress we are making in positioning Applied as a leading provider and channel partner of next-generation automation solutions. We look forward to seeing AMS’ capabilities bolster our collective efforts and value proposition moving forward.”

The deal continues Applied’s recent streak of acquiring automation-focused companies. In November 2022, the company acquired Minneapolis-based Automation Inc., and in August 2021 Applied acquired Rockford, Illinois-based automation provider R.R. Floody Company.

Among MDM’s 2022 Top Distributors, Applied ranked No. 13 for Industrial, No. 2 for Power Transmission and No. 1 for Fluid Power.
