Paint and coating manufacturer Sherwin-Williams Company announced Oct. 26 the groundbreaking of a $300 million expansion of its manufacturing and distribution facilities in Statesville, North Carolina.
The expansion includes a 36,000-square-foot extension of Sherwin-Williams’ existing manufacturing facility in Statesville, as well as a new 800,000-square-foot distribution and fleet transportation center. The project will also add four new rail spurs at the manufacturing site and leave another 200,000 square feet available for future expansion at the distribution site, according to a news release.
“Today marks an important milestone for Sherwin-Williams in continuing to serve our customers and investing in our employees,” Sherwin-Williams Chairman and CEO John Morikis said. “This project will support our growth for years to come. We are proud to be a part of the community here and grateful for the partnership we have with the local and state officials.”
Sherwin-Williams plans to add more than 180 full-time jobs as part of the expansion, which would essentially double the existing workforce, according to the release. The company plans to invest at least $300 million in the project and will also receive approximately $30 million in state, county and government incentives toward the project. Construction is expected to be complete by the end of 2024.
