Household and industrial consumables maker 3M announced Sept. 27 that it has established a new platform aimed to combat counterfeit products.
The company’s new Verify platform provides resources and information to help consumers, distributors, employees and the general public avoid buying counterfeit 3M products and report potential counterfeit products. Reports of such potential counterfeit products will be reviewed n investigated by anti-counterfeight response teams globally, according to a news release.
As one of the world’s largest suppliers of respiratory masks, gloves, face shields and other PPE products throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, 3M was the target of numerous counterfeiters and other bad actors looking to profit off of the company’s likeness — primarily with N95 masks.
The platform can be found at www.3M.com/3MVerify.
3M said that, in partnership with law enforcement and governments around the world, it has seized more than 58 million counterfeit respirators and removed tens of thousands of fraudulent eCommerce listings claiming to be 3M products. The company has filed numerous lawsuits against bad actors to stop those schemes.
“At 3M we are focused on innovating for our customers and that includes our commitment to fight counterfeiting and fraud,” said Kevin Rhodes, 3M executive vice president and chief legal affairs officer. “The 3M Verify platform will enable all our customers to be confident their product is genuine and delivering the quality that 3M is known for around the world.”
