France-based electrical products distributor Rexel reported its 2024 third quarter financial results on Oct. 22, showing modest growth in North America sales despite weather events in September.
In North America — 45% of group sales — 3Q sales were up 0.2% year-over-year on a same-day basis (0.6% reported). Electrification sales were down 12.2% and contributed -270 basis points, while core electrical distribution sales were up 2.9% with positive volume.
- U.S. sales — 83% of regional sales — were up 1.1% year-over-year (reported)
- Canada sales — 17% of regional sales — were down 3.7% year-over-year (reported)
Overall, the company posted 2Q sales of $5.1 billion, up 2.1% year-over-year on a same-day basis (-2.1%). The company noted its sales for electrification — 22% of the company’s 3Q’s total — were down 2.1% year-over-year, while core electrical distribution sales (including cable) — 78% of the company’s 3Q’s total — were up 0.3% year-over-year.
In Europe — 48% of group sales — 3Q sales decrease by 4.4% year-over-year on a same-day basis (1.6%). Electrification categories were down 12% year-over-year and contributed -260 bpd, while core electrical distribution sales were down 1.8%.
In Asia-Pacific — 7% of group sales —3Q sales down 0.9% year-over-year on a same-day basis (0.6% reported).
Other notes from Rexel’s 2Q:
- M&A: The company reported sales up 2.1% on a reported basis with a 3.1% increase from acquisitions, including Wasco in Europe and Talley and Electrical Supplies, Inc. in North America.
- Digital: The company reported a 32% increase in digital sales in 3Q24, up 254 bps, in line with Rexel’s roadmap.
- Pricing: The company said that is 3Q pricing for non-cable products was down 0.8%, a slight improvement from 2Q24. The decrease was caused by deflation in solar panels across geographies, piping in North America and industrial automation in China. In contrast, cable price contribution increased by 0.4% benefiting from more supportive copper prices.
Rexel’s North American operations was No. 5 on MDM’s Top Distributors List for Electrical, Data and Security Supplies.
