Pipes, valves and fittings distributor MRC Global Inc. (NYSE: MRC), Houston, reported second-quarter sales of $686 million, up 14% from the same period a year ago. The company narrowed its loss significantly in the quarter, to a loss of $2 million compared to a loss of $287 million last year.
In the second quarter, U.S. sales were up 18% year-over-year to $558 million, Canadian sales were up 7% to $30 million and international sales were down 2% to $98 million.
For the first six months, MRC sales were $1.3 billion, a 7.2% decrease from the same period a year ago. The company reported a loss of $11 million, compared to a loss of $284 million last year.
