The Sherwin-Williams Company (NYSE: SHW), Cleveland, OH, reported sales for the first quarter of $2.7 billion, up 7.3 percent from the same period in 2016. Profit increased 45 percent to $239.1 million.
Sales in the Paint Stores Group increased 12.1 percent to $1.81 billion in the quarter due primarily to higher architectural paint sales volume across all end market segments, selling price increases, and the impact of the change in revenue classification. Sales of the Consumer Group decreased 10.7 percent to $337.5 million in the quarter due primarily to lower volume sales to most of the Group's retail and commercial customers.
