Bearings manufacturer, NSK Ltd., Osaka, Japan, reported sales for the third quarter ended Dec. 31, of ¥247.5 billion (US$2.1 billion), an increase of 10.4 percent over the same quarter a year ago. Profit was ¥17.8 billion (US$151.8 million), compared to ¥1.1 billion (US$9.4 million) in the prior year period.
For the nine months ended Dec. 31, sales were ¥711.9 billion (US$6.1 billion), an increase of 11.6 percent over a year ago. Profit was ¥43.7 billion (US$372.8 million), compared to ¥15.8 billion (US$134.8 million) a year ago.
Sales in the industrial machinery business totaled ¥202.9 billion (US$1.7 billion), a year-over-year increase of 14 percent. Operating income for the segment was ¥22.6 billion (US$192.8 million), up 45.8 percent.
Automotive business sales were ¥480.2 billion (US$4.1 billion), a year-over-year increase of 11 percent. Operating income was ¥46.9 billion (US$400.1 million), up 39.9 percent.
