Amazon.com introduced a new service Aug. 31 to help its sellers store bulk inventory and ease distribution to combat supply-chain issues, the company announced in a blog post.

The new service, called Amazon Warehousing & Distribution, provides “low-cost, long-term storage that gives sellers the option to store their inventory in Amazon distribution centers and seamlessly replenish to fulfillment centers,” wrote Gopal Pillai, vice president of Amazon Distribution and Fulfillment Solutions.

Sellers can use the pay-as-you-go service to store and distribute their inventory within Amazon’s fulfillment network.

“Amazon Warehousing & Distribution (AWD) addresses critical supply chain challenges and helps sellers grow and manage their business while significantly cutting costs,” Pillai wrote. “AWD makes the promise of supply chain as a service a reality and is specifically designed to solve inventory management challenges and deliver operational efficiencies.”

In 2023, Amazon will expand AWD to off-Amazon destinations as well, allowing sellers to send their inventory directly to wholesale customers and brick-and-mortar stores through Amazon.

More information on AWD will be shared at Amazon Accelerate, the company’s annual seller conference taking place Sept. 14-15.
