On Sept. 22, the United Auto Workers announced it would extend its strike to 38 Stellantis and General Motors automotive parts distribution centers across 20 states. The centers supply parts to dealerships.
A Wall Street Journal report includes a map of the distribution centers targeted for the walkout.
Meanwhile, walkouts were not extended to Ford, which UAW President Shawn Fain said has made progress on their deal, including enhanced profit-sharing and the right to strike over plant closures, WSJ reported.

Fain’s strategy is one that is based on the element of surprise, which he says will give negotiators leverage and flexibility at the bargaining table, WSJ reported. The WSJ detailed that UAW is utilizing a “Chaos” tactic, demonstrating how a limited number of unpredictable labor strikes can prove more powerful than one mass work stoppage.
U.S. President Joe Biden announced he will travel to Michigan on Sept. 26 to support the UAW strike. Former President Donald Trump is scheduled to be in Detriot Sept. 27.
Tuesday, I’ll go to Michigan to join the picket line and stand in solidarity with the men and women of UAW as they fight for a fair share of the value they helped create.
It’s time for a win-win agreement that keeps American auto manufacturing thriving with well-paid UAW jobs.
