The Timken Co. (NYSE: TKR), Canton, OH, reported first quarter sales of $703.8 million, up 2.9 percent year-over-year. The company reported a profit of $38.2 million, down from $65.9 million in the same period the prior year.
Mobile industries sales for the quarter were $383 million, a .05 percent decrease from the previous year. Process industries sales for the quarter increased 6.6 percent to $320.8 million.
The company recently added to its mechanical power transmission product portfolio with the acquisition of Torsion Control Products, Inc., a manufacturer of engineered torsional couplings, which complements the Lovejoy acquisition made last year.
