SUPERVALU Inc. (NYSE: SVU), Minneapolis, MN, reported sales for the fiscal second quarter ended Sept. 12 of $4.1 billion, an increase of 0.5 percent year-over-year. Profit was $31 million, flat compared to the prior year.
Second quarter independent business sales decreased 0.2 percent compared to the prior year quarter, while Save-A-Lot sales increased 3.2 percent and retail food sales decreased 1.2 percent.
Year-to-date sales were $9.5 billion, an increase of 1.8 percent year-over-year. Profit increased 24.3 percent to $92 million.
