Pentair plc (NYSE: PNR), Manchester, UK, reported second quarter sales of $1.7 billion, a year-over-year increase of 4 percent. Profit decreased 3.4 percent to $142.8 million.

The valves & controls segment had second quarter sales of $433.6 million, down 12.7 percent from the prior-year quarter.

Flow & filtration solutions sales were down 1.6 percent to $368.7 million. Water quality systems sales were up 2.4 percent to $397.1 million.

Technical solutions sales were $540.6 million for the quarter, up 32.8 percent year-over-year.

For the first six months, sales were $3.3 billion, up 5.5 percent from the prior-year period. Profit decreased 4.4 percent to $250.2 million.
