Motion Industries, No. 6 on MDM’s 2014 list of the top 40 industrial distributors, reported sales for 2015 of $4.6 billion, down 2.6 percent compared to the previous year. Operating profit decreased 8.3 percent to $339.2 million.
Fourth-quarter sales were $1.1 billion, a decrease of 7.6 percent compared to the same period a year earlier. Operating profit decreased 24.8 percent to $72.5 million.
Parent company Genuine Parts Co. (NYSE: GPC), Atlanta, GA, reported sales for 2015 of $15.3 billion, a decrease of 0.4 percent compared to the previous year. Profit decreased 0.8 percent to $705.7 million.
Fourth-quarter sales for Genuine Parts were $3.7 billion, a decrease of 3.7 percent compared to the same period a year earlier. Profit decreased 2.6 percent to $161.3 million.
Sales at EIS, the electrical/electronic group, for 2015 increased 1.6 percent to $750.8 million compared to the previous year. Fourth-quarter sales were flat at $177.2 million.
Sales for S. P. Richards, the office products group, increased 7.5 percent to $1.9 billion for 2015 but decreased 2.2 percent to $458.8 million for the fourth quarter.
Automotive sales decreased 1 percent to $8 billion for 2015 and decreased 2 percent to $1.9 billion for the fourth quarter.
