Kennametal Inc. (NYSE: KMT), Latrobe, PA, reported sales for the second quarter ended Dec. 31, 2013, of $690 million, an increase of 9 percent from the previous year, with organic sales increasing 2 percent. Profit decreased 42.5 percent to $24.2 million.
Industrial segment sales of $371 million increased 10 percent year-over-year during the quarter. Infrastructure segment sales of $319 million increased 7 percent.
For the first six months of the fiscal year, sales were $1.3 billion, a 4 percent increase from the previous year, with organic sales increasing 1 percent. The company reported a profit of $62.7 million year-to-date, a decrease of 30.6 percent from the same period in 2012.
