Avnet Inc. (NYSE: AVT), Phoenix, AZ, reported sales for the first quarter ended Sept. 27, 2014, of $6.8 billion, up 7.8 percent over the same period a year ago. Organic sales grew 5.8 percent year-over-year and 5.6 percent in constant currency.

Profit for the electronics components distributor increase 6 percent to $127.9 million.

Electronics marketing sales were $4.4 billion, a year-over-year increase of 11.1 percent. Organic sales grew 7.8 percent.

Technology solutions sales were $2.5 billion, up 2.4 percent on a real and organic basis.
