Lighting distributor Acuity Brands Inc. (NYSE: AYI), Atlanta, GA, reported sales for the fiscal third quarter ended May 31 of $891.6 million, a 4.7 percent increase compared to the same period a year earlier. Profit increased 11.1 percent to $82.2 million.
For the first nine months, sales were $2.5 billion, a 7.7 percent increase year-over year. Profit grew 11.2 percent to $231.2 million.
Vernon Nagel, president and CEO, said the company's "profitability was negatively impacted by higher than normal supply chain costs, including increased quality expense and greater inbound freight charges."
