On Sept. 5, fasteners and industrial supplies distributor Martin Inc. shared the somber news that Marc Strandquist, the company’s Executive Vice President of its Martin Fastening Solutions unit, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on Aug. 31.

A seasoned global executive leader, Strandquist had more than 35 years of experience in the class-C component industry, overseeing companies across Europe, South America and North America.

His career included 24 years holding executive positions, driving value for parent organizations that ranged from entities with $40 million in annual revenue to major firms that include Würth Industry North America and Optimas Solutions, Nos. 16 and 31 on MDM’s 2023 Top Industrial Distributors List, respectively.

Strandquist joined the Martin team in January 2023, operating out of its Jackson, Tennessee location.

“In the short time he was with us, his impact was significant, enhancing the strategy and operations of our Fastening Solutions division,” Martin co-CEO Doug Ruggles said in a news release. “His passion, dedication, and invaluable insights will be deeply missed by both colleagues at Martin and professionals in the broader fastening industry.”

Prior to Martin, Strandquist helped lead Optimas for nearly two years, including as CEO from October 2020 to August 2021, and held positions at WINA for the previous seven years. He was also President and a member of the National Fastener Distributors Association from 2015-2018.

“As we mourn this immense loss, we are reminded of the deep connections within our business community,” Ruggles added. “We remain committed to honoring Marc’s legacy in our forthcoming endeavors and express our gratitude to our esteemed partners for their unwavering support during this difficult time.”
